Nintendo Sues Americas Dumbest Video Game Pirate

Nintendo is a Japanese game developing company that is famous for guarding its intellectual properties against copywriting infringement. Here, it is pertinent to mention that game console makers use legal systems to protect their intellectual properties. Nintendo has also filed a lawsuit against an American video game pirate Gary Bowser, the supposed leader of the piracy group Team Xecuter.

Gary Bowser has been in the hacking world since 2013 and has sold several hacked devices. After being fed up with him, Nintendo has decided to take some action this time. The lawsuit says that Bowser has been hacking and selling Nintendo devices since 2013. It is also worth mentioning that Gary Bowser has been in jail with his friend for fraud charges against him.

The Japanese game developer is famous for winning compensations for each alleged instance. Nintendo considers video game piracy as a worsening international problem. He has provided the court with the details of how pirates bypass his security systems. Keeping in mind the lawsuit-winning history of Nintendo, we can call video game piracy a stupid act.

Before delving deep into the lawsuit, it is far better to clarify the concept of video games and their fair usage. Fair usage stems from the interpretation of the game and allows a limited degree of freedom in using the media. In simple words, proper usage enables you to make a backup of the game and use that backup from time to time. It does not involve selling that copy of the video game.

It is also noteworthy that piracy in the gaming industry has been as long as the industry is itself. One can easily understand the intent behind video game piracy because getting something free is always alluring. The tactics used by the gaming console developers are ineffective to this day. Most of the developers use Digital Rights Management to protect the copyrights of their consoles. Pirates, however, always find some ways to hack games.

Origin and Development of Video Game Piracy

Video games are the core of cultural innovation we have seen in the past decade. These have revolutionised the development of the information economy throughout the world. Video games play a crucial role in bringing innovation to the smartphone and tablet industry because of their online gaming experience. Millions of new casual users are increasing daily. It would be quite right to say that video games are pioneers in cloud computing because it enables the users around the world to play the game online.

Videogames are vulnerable to piracy because you can create an infinite number of copies like any software. Copying video games is a cheap practice because of zero contribution to the cost of making games. There are two kinds of video game piracy, individual and commercial video game piracy. With the advent of the internet and cloud computing, commercial video game piracy has become common. The effects of video game piracy are different depending on the technology used and demographics of the pirates.

Video game piracy is a colossal scale theft because pirates create hundreds, thousands, and sometimes millions of copies without contributing to the developers’ community.
