World’s ‘first space hotel’ revealed for 400 Astro-tourists

World’s ‘first space hotel’ revealed for 400 Astro-tourists

With the pace technology is currently moving at, commercial space travel will very soon be a tangible reality. Of course, the international space station already exists, and though space travel is somewhat commonplace now, it is not yet ready for commercial use. However, as everyone can agree, space travel is an experience everyone would love to have at least once in their life.

For this reason, The Gateway Foundation, an organization that is known for its out-of-the-box, innovative thinking, has conceptualized and designed a one of a kind space hotel!

This orbiting space station is the first of its kind hotel for “Astro-tourists.” Explicitly designed to accommodate 400 guests in a grand superstructure that will be far away from Earth. This extraordinary space hotel will have facilities that you often only find in top hotels, such as restaurants, bars, and even a cinema.

The foundation has decided to name its brainchild, the Von Braun Space Station. For its architecture and technology, The Gateway Foundation plans on using preexisting plans and models. The likes of which are already in use in the International Space Station (ISS)

The difference being, though, that this space station will have a commercial purpose instead of a scientific purpose. The luxury space station as a concept is something along the lines of an orbiting cruise ship with luxury accommodation and cocktail bars.

The space station is necessarily going to be a fully functioning hotel, and like all grand hotels, it will host numerous events within its premises as well. Educational seminars, scientific conferences, and much more, the possibilities are never-ending.

Having a luxurious space hotel poses its challenges, you can’t expect guests to float around in giant space suits. Therefore, unlike the International Space Station, this space hotel aims to have artificial gravity so that guests can walk around normally as they would on Earth. Artificial gravity will help in making long-term stays more feasible and short ones much more comfortable.

To be able to generate appropriate and natural gravity, the hotel’s design is in the shape of a 190-meter-diameter wheel. The plan is for this wheel to rotate at a steady speed. The rotation, in turn, generates a gravitational force similar to the one on the Moon.

The first space hotel has a relatively smaller plan and will house 24 individual, large pods. These pods or rooms will contain comfortable sleeping accommodation inside. All amenities will be free to make guests’ stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. The whole place will have a cozy, yet luxurious feel to it so that guests can thoroughly enjoy their stay and feel like the entire trip was worthwhile. The hotel aims to make guests feel like they have a piece of home, even when they are thousands of miles away while being surrounded by the vastness of space.

The Gateway Foundation plans on having its space station hotel up and running by 2025! They have high hopes that at least 100 tourists will visit the floating holiday resort each week.

Once the Von Braun Space Station is up and running successfully, the Gateway Foundation then plans on expanding the project even further. Based on the same model, the foundation will then build an even larger space hotel that will be able to accommodate up to 1400 people! So you could think of Von Braun Space Station as a stepping stone for further progress of sizeable commercial space stations.

To some, this project may seem frivolous and next to impossible to carry out properly. However, that isn’t stopping The Gateway Foundation from trying their best to execute their plan. The foundation is not one to shy away from a challenge and plan on proving naysayers wrong with their work! Their far-thinking strategy may prove to be what we need to push our boundaries in innovation and technology further.

WHAT IS THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION (ISS)?

The International Space Station, often abbreviated to ISS, is a large spacecraft that orbits Earth. This giant spacecraft houses astronauts who venture out into space, often for long periods, to complete scientific missions. Since 2009, the space station can accommodate up to 6 astronauts.

Engineers and scientists from numerous countries worked together to build this spacecraft, and they all utilize it along as well. Therefore, the International Space Station does not belong to any particular country, nor does it research for just one. All research is shared and distributed equally among various countries that work together towards a common goal of scientific progress. This space station is the most massive human-made structure ever to be put into space.

The International Space Station consists of numerous different parts that had to be sent to space separately. These parts were sent individually on rockets and then put together by a team of astronauts from 1998 to 2000.

The space station has been fully functional since the year 2000 and has housed numerous astronauts since. These astronauts collect data and then send it back to control centres on Earth. This data is essential for furthering crucial research. The astronauts are also responsible for the maintenance of the space station as well. NASA currently uses the International Space Station to learn about living and working in space.

The space station is approximately 250 miles above Earth and orbits around the planet, just like a satellite. According to the astronauts living inside the ISS is said to be like living inside a big house. The spacecraft contains five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a gym, a bunch of science labs, and a big bay window for viewing Earth. However, gravity is limited, and astronauts need to learn how to maneuver in zero gravity. Still, being on the space station is a once in a lifetime experience, and now we can all experience it thanks to The Gateway Foundation’s new venture.
