12 Months Free credit monitoring available for selected Optus customers
Optus will offer all current and former customers “most affected” by the data breach a free 12-month subscription to a credit monitoring and identity protection service by leading company Equifax Protect.
Optus didn’t specify the parameters for what “most affected” means, we can presume that all customers who had identification documents such as there passport numbers or driver’s licenses exposed will be part of this group.
Optus will get in touch with these customers at some stage with information on how to start the new Equifax subscription over the coming weeks. The telco advises these communications will not include any hyper-links. If you get email or SMS purporting to be from Optus with a link, do not click – it’s a scam, its better to call them back to make sure its them.
Currently Equifax Credit & Identity Protect is valued at $14.95 per month which includes a monthly credit report, alerts for any changes to your report, dark-web monitoring, and the documenting of expiry alerts.
Optus says, officially, it has now contacted all customers with identification documents compromised as part of the breach. It is now reaching out to customers with other details, such as their email addresses, exposed.
